Meditation and Mindfulness

Meditation and mindfulness training is one of those things you can be bad at and still reap rewards. These resources are great for learning, but remember that perfection is not the end goal. Doing something for yourself is.

Insight Timer

Free guided meditations, sleep support, and mindfulness courses from teachers around the world. One of the largest free libraries out there.

Calm

Meditation, sleep stories, and breathing tools. Particularly useful for anxiety and winding down at the end of the day.

Yoga with Adriene

Yoga is for everyone, not just the bendy people with beach bods. Adriene meets people where they are. This is a huge library, and it is free.

Mental Health Education

Education does not have to cost thousands of dollars to be valuable. These resources are for people who want to learn more about their mental health, their diagnosis, the diagnosis of a loved one, or to just figure out what is going on.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

This go-to resource for mental health professionals helps individuals and families better understand mental health.

UCLA Mindful

Free guided meditations directly from UCLA's Mindful Awareness Research Center. No subscription, no upsell. Just good resources.

Self-Compassion

Self-compassion can feel like a fragile little whiney practice, but the research suggests that it is one of the best practices for mental health. If you want to give it a try, start here.

Greater Good Science Center 

UC Berkeley's world-class research is for regular people. This site provides information about mindfulness, happiness, and resilience that has withstood academic rigor.

Verywell Mind

Medically reviewed mental health content written in plain language. Good starting point if you are trying to understand a diagnosis or learn about treatment options.

National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)

This is the federal government's mental health research institute. Free fact sheets and guides on mental health conditions written for regular people, available in English and Spanish.

Food Bank of North Alabama

Serves 11 counties across North Alabama through a network of over 230 food pantries and partner agencies. Use their food finder tool to locate the nearest distribution site.

Manna House

Provides food for individuals and families in Huntsville three nights a week. No paperwork, no barriers. Open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings.

Huntsville Assistance Program (HAP)

Emergency food pantry for Madison County residents. Also provides financial assistance for rent and utilities through member churches.

Community Action Agency of Huntsville/Madison & Limestone Counties

Offers utility assistance through LIHEAP for eligible households struggling with heating and cooling costs. Income-based, limited funding available seasonally.

Huntsville Housing Authority

Affordable housing and Section 8 voucher program for qualifying individuals and families in Huntsville.

Crisis Services

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
